The first blog post…

Hi everyone, and welcome to the first what will hopefully be a series of blog entries.

Firstly, I’ll introduce myself. I’m Anthony Butler, and I’m a very proud member of Breakaleg Productions (BALP). I’ve been with BALP for the last 2 and half years and I’ve been throughly entranced by the way BALP operate. I suppose the first thing that really struck me was how collaborative the company is. Many other theatre companies I have been with wouldn’t dream of making everything, and by that I do mean everything, a group decision. I think this is what makes BALP stand so far out from the crowd. The second thing that struck me was the people. Although a small group, the diversity in experience and the warmth of all was again something I have rarely seen. The actors within the company all welcomed me with open arms and really made what could have been a very nerve wracking experience the easiest audition I think I’ve ever had.

Before I joined BALP, I have been a member of various theatre companies, mostly performing in and around the Sheffield/Rotherham/Doncaster areas. The sort of productions I had been involved had also mainly been musical theatre. So, stepping away from the jazz hands was a little out of my comfort zone! Having said that, I did study drama at college and have done a lot of plays, but for the 13 years prior to joining BALP, my feet were firmly planted in musicals.

Whilst my role on stage tends to vary, my role off stage is just as diverse. Currently I am in charge the publicity, photography, sound and lighting design and I run this website. On top of all of that, I have to try and fit in learning lines and keeping up with my 2 children, both of whom are under 12! Sometimes I think I stick with BALP just to get a rest from the constant noise of kids TV! 🙂

I can’t wait to see what exciting productions BALP will do next and I really hope that you, our very valued audience keep enjoying the shows that we so lovingly put on for you. We love to hear from you so please, if you haven’t already, give us a like on Facebook or get in touch with us through the Contact Us section of this website.

Thanks for taking the time to read this and I hope to see you in the audience at our next show.
